It's been a while. Things have been so hectic for me lately, but not without some rewards. I just made the Dean's List! Anyway, this was a team effort so I took heed to some advice from guest contributor DJ Mike. He had his stuff together way before I did, but I finally got around to doing my part. Mike compiled disc 1 and dubbed it "A Night at the Arcade" (aka THE BAD FOR BLIZZNESS MIXES!) Have you ever been at the arcade and worked up such a sweat you had to step outside for a few minutes? It just wouldn't feel right if I wasn't hot and itchy. I win a few rounds and have to take my hat off!
About 10 years ago I did a web comic. I made this collage to start off the 3rd season. I used a ridiculous number of Mugen kits, but I had so much fun working on it. It got to be too much work after a while.

First of all, mucho thanks to Hrangue for allowing me to help put this project together. What began as a nominal idea has turned into something truly exceptional. After many long hours of work, scrutinizing every facet of audio, and making a few changes along the way, it has arrived: A Night at the Arcade, for your listening pleasure. When I first set about putting my mix together, I had no preconceived notion as to what it should or shouldn't be, except that it would be to my liking musically and include Ken's Theme from Street Fighter Alpha. You'll hear a lot of jazz/funk arrangements, some exceptional orchestra pieces with arresting melodies and even a few moody offerings as well.
This is just a small sample of what these composers (and many others) have to offer. There's so much great music out there, it's mind-boggling.

Fighting games, beat-em-ups, and RPGs have always been my thing. Fighters are stressful for me. Kids are just too good these days, I don't have the time to hone my skills and play online. Beat-em-ups are theraputic; I feel great afterward (or sleepy). And RPG's hold my attention for such a long time. I don't play them as much now. I rarely game much at all these days. What's funny about DJ Mike wanting to collab is that he's been keeping track of my various posts and I think he noticed somewhere along the line that there's quite a bit of game music on this blog already, but I just don't call it that. Anyway, I'm not going to comment on the music itself. If you've been with me this long, you know I'm consistent! I don't care if you don't even like games, it's still good music. And if you like Japanese composers, this is a no-brainer. As I typed these lists up I've come to see that the letter "Y" is as popular in Japan as the letter "Z" is in China.

I give Mike ALOT OF PROPS for EQing my tracks. He took it upon himself during The Great Blizzard of 2010 (aka Snowmaggeddon) and I'm thoroughly impressed. I need to get on HIS level! Now back to Phantasy Star Online... this track "Mother Earth of Dishonesty Part 1" is some of the most beautiful music I've ever heard. No wonder I almost failed 10th grade because of PSO. I must've been addicted to the music! Also, Mike and I obviously come from 2 different eras of gaming. I've had a number of systems, but I was in my gaming prime during the Dreamcast days. Back when arcades were hot, I was a fiend for anything Neo Geo or Capcom although my last arcade obsession was Crazy Taxi. Who would've thought?
